Overview

Discover the mystical kingdom of Bhutan on this Bhutan Short Tour, a 3-day journey into the country's two most iconic cities, Thimphu and Paro. Bhutan remains one of the most isolated and culturally preserved nations in the world, where ancient Buddhist tradition and modern civilization exist side by side amid a backdrop of snow-capped Himalayan peaks and pristine natural beauty. This short but exotic tour offers a comprehensive introduction to Bhutanese culture, history, and hospitality, including a visit to the legendary Tiger's Nest Monastery, all within a compact and rewarding itinerary.

Bhutan's ancient history and culture can be seen in an abundance alongside modern civilization and living Buddhist tradition, nowhere more so than in its two most popular cities, Thimphu and Paro. In Bhutan, traditional values are still held with great respect, and the country's pristine natural beauty is combined with a magnificently rich culture, making it one of the most distinctive travel destinations in the world.

Although Bhutan is a small, landlocked country in South Asia, it offers endless cultural and natural richness, remaining largely isolated and retaining a unique way of life found nowhere else. Its rich culture and breathtaking scenery, combined with impressive architecture and centuries of history, are reflected in numerous historical sites associated with ancient monasteries and hermitages perched in the high Himalayan valleys.

This 3-day Bhutan Short Tour unveils the mystery of Thimphu, the country's capital, and unlocks the hidden treasures of Paro, home to Bhutan's most iconic landmark, the Tiger's Nest Monastery. The journey begins with your arrival at Paro International Airport, followed by a scenic drive to Thimphu, where you will spend time exploring the city's most significant cultural sites, including the National Memorial Chorten, the impressive Tashichho Dzong, and the local farmer's market.

Returning to Paro, travelers can look forward to one of the most memorable experiences in the Himalayas, the hike to Taktsang Monastery, better known as the Tiger's Nest, a sacred monastery perched dramatically on a cliffside above the Paro valley. The tour also includes a visit to Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum, both offering further insight into Bhutan's rich architectural and cultural heritage.

This short but comprehensive package gives travelers genuine cultural insight into Bhutanese life within a limited timeframe, making it an ideal choice for those with only a few days to spend in this remarkable Himalayan kingdom. Throughout the journey, travelers are accommodated in some of Bhutan's finest hotels, offering a variety of local menus, excellent facilities, and the warm hospitality that Bhutan is known for.

Along the way or upon arrival, you will visit Kuensel Phodrang, also known as the Buddha Point, a short drive from town offering one of the best panoramic views of the Thimphu valley. Here you can pay your respects to the country's largest Buddha statue before taking in the surrounding views.

After breakfast, you will drive back to Paro to continue your tour with a hike to the legendary Tiger's Nest Monastery, a visit to a traditional farmhouse, and the National Museum.
The morning hike leads to Taktsang Monastery, Bhutan's most iconic landmark, perched 800m (2,640ft) up a sheer cliffside. Legend holds that Guru Rinpoche, the Second Buddha, flew here on the back of a tigress in the 8th century, giving the monastery its name. Though destroyed by fire in 1998, it has since been fully restored. The hike takes about five hours round trip over a mix of gentle and steep terrain, with horseback riding available partway up for an additional US$25 per person. This visit can also be arranged flexibly as an alternative to hiking, based on your preference.
Later, you will visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse, offering a rare opportunity to experience daily Bhutanese life from the inside rather than simply admiring the brightly decorated exteriors found throughout the valley. A hot stone bath and home-cooked meal at the farmhouse are available for an additional US$25 per person.
The day continues with a visit to the National Museum, followed by time to stroll around Paro and see how locals live.
